Water Jet Cutting

Kerf Cuts into New Technology at MACH 2020

Tuesday 10 March 2020, 2:02 PM

At the MACH 2020 exhibition, sheet metal, plate cutting and profiling experts, Kerf Developments will be showcasing its extensive range of high quality oxy-fuel, plasma and waterjet cutting technology.

The Rochdale based manufacturer will be giving a MACH exhibition premiere to the 2020 Version of the highly acclaimed UltraSharp plasma cutting technology. The cutting technology provides a cost-effective alternative to laser cutting for many applications. The UltraSharp technology intelligently utilises proven material databases to calculate the most appropriate cutting strategy, identifying the most suitable speeds and feeds, gas pressures and applying the most appropriate lead-in and lead-out strategies. Calculating and combining all these strategies, UltraSharp offers customers’ high cutting speeds, consistent cut quality, excellent edge finish and downstream productivity benefits. Improving upon what is already considered the best technology available, MACH 2020 visitors will be able to see the latest enhancements that will appeal to those involved in structural steelwork and general fabricators that need ‘bolt ready’ holes, slots and high quality profile cut edges.

On show at the stand will be a best in class RUR2500gp machine. This is a high specification combination machine that offers the ultimate in terms of precision plasma cutting via a best in class Lincoln Electric Spirit 400amp system with UltraSharp cut quality. This is complemented by a powerful oxy-fuel cutting head for cutting material up to 150mm thick!

Alongside the RUR2500GP will be the extremely popular and cost-effective Plasmaster 3015 profiling machine. Initially launched at MACH 2016, the Plasmaster is a compact machine that enables Kerf to bridge the gap between the high-end RUR machines and the refurbished machines the Rochdale Company supplies. Significantly improved with new technology since its introduction, the enhanced Plasmaster 3015 targets smaller businesses wanting to cut everything from thin materials such as ductwork through to heavy duty fabricators needing to cut thicker materials up to 25mm. Kerf has created a robust, efficient and productive machine that appeals to a range of manufacturers.

The Plasmaster machine consists of a heavy-duty plate support system that contains individual dross bins that can be easily accessed to remove waste material.  It is capable of supporting a plate size of 3.0m by 1.5m and up to 25mm thick. The engineers at Kerf designed the base to be free standing and not connected to the machine frame. This eliminates any potential shock loading issues and significantly enhances the process reliability of the Plasmaster 3015. The machine at MACH will be demonstrated with the 200amp Lincoln Electric Flexcut plasma system that will be working in harmony with the user friendly BURNY CNC control system.

The existing RUR and Plasmaster machines will be complimented at MACH 2020 with the latest profile cutting technology. Developed for large volume structural steel manufacturers, the PythonX STRUCTURAL from Lincoln Electric is the world-leading Robotic Structural Fabrication System. Trusted by hundreds of end users worldwide, the high-end production system offers flexibility, capability and productivity that steel processing companies will not have previously witnessed. With such ‘game-changing’ technology, Kerf will have Lincoln Electric product specialists on the stand to discuss the benefits of this automated system that can complete the work of many other machines within one PythonX STRUCTURAL cutting solution.

Also being introduced at MACH for the first time, will be the PCS range of heavy-duty manufacturing cells. Developed over the last 25 years, the PCS range offers the ultimate in CNC plate processing technology. At MACH, experts from PCS will be available to discuss the opportunities that the production cells can give UK manufacturers. With multiple processing stations such as drilling, tapping, machining, plasma bevel cutting and a great deal more, the PCS brand that is now available in the UK from Kerf will present never before seen opportunities for manufacturers.
