With more engineers currently working from home, MTDCNC and all its associated channels have noticed a significant rise in traffic and viewing figures. To keep you up to speed with the industry developments and technology advancements, here we take a look back at the recent Southern Manufacturing exhibition in Farnborough to show you what you will have missed, if you didn’t make it to the event.

As one of the biggest manufacturing shows on the UK industrial exhibition calendar, the MTD team were out in force to investigate what is new to the marketplace. On the stand of Advanced Manufacturing Services Ltd, Richard Jones told MTD: “We supply equipment and consumables the electronics industry as well as high-end hand soldering through to fully automatic in line soldering systems for large-scale manufacturers.” On the company stand was an impressive looking ‘pick and place’ machine. Referring to this, Richard says: “This machine is used to pick and place components and locate them on printed circuit boards (PCBs) prior to them being soldered, taking the difficult manual operation out of the process. The pick and place machine can put up to 6000 parts onto a circuit board every hour, taking into account orientation, rotation, part numbers and items.”

Moving on to the stand of Geomiq, Sam Al-Mukhtar told MTD: “Our online manufacturing platform allows designers and engineers or procurement departments to get components parts and quotes in record time. We have identified that the biggest bottlenecks in business are getting quotes and parts into the production process. After using some very good products, I decided there was still a gap in the market for an online digital platform that allowed me to get guaranteed quotes within 24 hours. This is now what we can do, and we can ship parts in as little as five days for CNC precision components. We also offer CNC injection moulding and a sheet-metal service, this makes us a ‘one-stop’ shop for designers and engineers.”

Looking at the Sempre stand at the Southern Show, Mike John reveals: “This is all about high-speed automated measurement. We have integrated a measuring system with industrial robots and software without the need for PLCs. The whole idea of universal robots is that instead of having to write code, you can move them around and set positions manually.”

Taking a closer look at the AMOB stand Manuel Barros said: “this electric NC Tube Bending machine is a fully electric machine that is a mid-range machine for us. The MDH90CN2 is capable of bending tubes to an outside diameter 52mm with a tube thickness of 2mm in mild steel. Two bending machines will bend square, rectangular and round tubes in a length up to 3m.”

Steven Jack from GEM Cables told MTD: “We are a UK manufacturer of cables for various industry sectors, but predominantly across the aerospace, transport and communications sectors. Our customers are generally businesses that have spoken need for a cable assembly, so we will look at the requirements and they may tell us that they want an interconnection from one point to another, and we will help with the design, manufacture and implementation of that cable production and assembly.”
