Versatility and productivity: Laser technology combined with a robot

Monday 15 March 2021, 2:34 PM

The production of parts of different shapes always presents some difficulties, especially if they have to be produced intensively.

GF Machining Solutions and Crevoisier, both Switzerland-based machine tool makers, have combined their machine tool and automation expertise to develop the new solution of a robotized loading cell to fully and autonomously manage GF Machining Solutions Laser texturing machines’ production of several types of components.

This GF Machining Solutions automated cell capitalizes on the AgieCharmilles LASER P 400 U Femto Flexipulse, a machine equipped with a single Laser source capable of alternately combining two laser sources of different wavelengths, red (IR) and green (GR). Thanks to this feature, this new three- or five-axis machine offers a versatile solution to machine materials that were previously difficult or even impossible to machine such as iron, ceramics, sapphire, diamonds, and certain polymers.

The compact and modular C-66 robot is the ideal automation solution for a wide range of applications. The accuracy and modularity give the ability to reproduce human movements for loading specific fixtures. The robots will allow increased productivity of the cell through a loading time (machine stop) of less than 10 seconds.

This solution also offers great flexibility via a cell manager, which allows management of unitary parts, from medium series to large volumes or even a mix of these three quantities. The robot’s flexibility means users can machine all the six sides of a part if necessary.
