OPEN MIND presents hyperMILL® 2019.2

Friday 9 August 2019, 3:05 PM

The new version 2019.2 of CAD / CAM hyper MILL ® includes innovations in many areas: from high – precision 3D finish tangential to the 5 – axis machining, turning , high – performance CAD CAM related technologies. OPEN MIND is integrating more and more functions, which were previously supplementary stages of CAD machining, directly into CAM strategies to further accelerate programming.

Already introduced in the latest version for finishing high precision profiles, hyper MILL ® 2019.2 now offers the finishing of 3D mold drawings: the option «High precision surface mode» allows to obtain surfaces with a smooth mirror finish with tolerances in the µm range This eliminates the need for polishing, especially in the manufacture of molds. The same effect is also achieved with the “Soft overlap” function for finishing 3D profiles. In the areas of transition between flat and inclined areas, overlaps can be defined to rectify the limits that would otherwise occur. Raising the tool slightly achieves a perfect and imperceptible transition to the attached surface.

CAD functions integrated directly into CAM

In the case of hyper MILL ® 2019.2, the “Global adjustment” function of hyper CAD ® -S, which is part of the 5-axis tangential machining, has been integrated directly into the CAM strategy. Thanks to this function it is possible to combine several surfaces into one with a defined ISO orientation. This principle of using CAD elements for CAM programming also applies, for example, to automatic surface extension. For example, to improve the milling result at the edges of the part, the perimeter of the milling surfaces selected during programming can be extended. The fact that it is no longer necessary to switch to the CAD system to make these adjustments greatly simplifies programming.

High performance turning

In the latest version of hyper MILL ® MAXX Machining , roughing was implemented with trocoidal tool paths. Improved bonding paths and fluid machine movements guarantee high performance machining. In this way, significantly higher cutting values can be introduced than with conventional roughing methods. The 2019.2 version guarantees greater process safety for high-performance turning: Service time monitoring allows you to limit the use of a tool based on the distance traveled, the number of paths or a time limit. If the defined limit is reached, a reverse macro will be created automatically and the task will be completed.

Enhanced macro and operations technology

With the new version, OPEN MIND has also further improved macros and operations technology to make programming safer and easier for users. A very useful function in everyday life is the definition of macros for repeating geometries. OPEN MIND has equipped the macro database with a text search. Groups of machines and materials can also be established as standard to facilitate the selection of macros.

With the drilling operation linkage, model changes in the CAD options are transferred to hyper MILL ® automatically. Since CAD design changes are associated associatively with CAM, users can make corrections quickly and safely.

Analytical capabilities

An important aspect in the automation of CNC programming is the analysis of the existing design in relation to the possible machining strategies.

A new and interesting function for those who work with very large pieces: in hyper CAD ®-S, it is now possible to calculate the masses and centers of gravity of the fixings from solids, volume meshes and gross parts by assigning a material. Another of the highlights of the CAD part is the “negative” function, which allows you to quickly and reliably recognize the counter-output areas in the parts. In addition, with the new analysis function “Local curvature” you can easily and quickly create radii of curvature in the parts. The minimum radius of curvature, which often plays the most important role, is shown immediately. In this way, the user can, for example, calculate the best input angle or tool radius for machining curved surfaces.
