DMG MORI Event Brings 4 New World Premiere’s

Tuesday 31 March 2020, 8:12 AM

At the recent DMG Mori Open House event in Pfronten, Germany; MTDCNC were among the 8000 guests, customers and visitors to witness not one, but four world premiere machine launches. The MTDCNC team looked at all the world premiere machine tool launches, but one world premiere that really caught our eye was the DMU 65H. To take us through the merits of this new machine, we spoke with Cornelius Noβ from DMG MORI.

Cornelius Noβ told MTDCNC: “The DMU 65H is a new horizontal Monoblock machine with a gantry concept that was previously reserved for vertical machining centres. We have combined the horizontal spindle concept with other well-known components of the series of machines that we are building hearing Pfronten.”

With swarf fall away being a major benefit of the horizontal spindle concept, MTD’s the asked about the kinematics of the table and the movement of the machine tool. Cornelius Noβ says: “So, you can work with a horizontal table concept the table in front of the spindle and you can also go completely upside down and even go over the spindle to machine at negative angles. This really gives the customer a unique working area that we are trying to create where you can work in all positions. We have tried to eliminate the loss of working envelope area by increasing the stroke in the Y-axis, so we have an extended stroke with 900mm, which is very good as we are talking about a machine with a stroke of 650mm.”

Asked if this new machine can undertake turning operations as well as milling, Cornelius Noβ continues: “Yes, of course. We can integrate the turning function so that we can make milling and turning possible using proven components of the Monoblock series, such as the FD table with up to 1200rpm spindle speed.”

When asked who the target market would be for the new machine, Cornelius Noβ continues: “The target group for this machine is quite wide, as usual we try to create here a very universal machine concept. The aim is to create a machine that is compatible and suitable for them many of our customers regardless of industry sector. Of course, will be using this in the aerospace industry as well as the mould and die marketplace and the small and medium-size enterprises. These are the job shops that do not know what they would be machining tomorrow, for them this machine will be perfect.”

As well as the universal capabilities of the machine, the new DMU 65H has the flexibility of automation through DMG MORI’s RPS pallet system. At the Pfronten event, DMG MORI had the nine pallet RPS9 system connected to the new DMU 65H machine. Referring to this Cornelius concludes: “The machine is open to any kind of automation system, but at this event you will see the DMU type where we can usually enter from the front side as well as from the operator side. The pallets are available on two levels that will deliver the parts on the rotating pallets directly to the working area, this design also saves space on the factory shop floor.”

The DMU 65H with the RPS9 pallet loading system was just one of four world premieres to be demonstrated at the Pfronten showcase event. For further information on any of the machines at the event, you can either get in touch with DMG Mori or you can see more videos here at MTDCNC.
